Hotels In Inverness-shire & Isle Of Skye
Visit Inverness, Loch Ness and Nessie, superb Cairngorms National Park, the dramas of Lochaber and Lochalsh, and of course the heavenly Isle of Skye. Steeped in history and castles.
Plenty distilleries too - notable are Ben Nevis (named after the mountain) in Fort William, Tomatin, and Talisker in Skye. A wealth of delights far too long to mention in such an eclectic area of tourism riches. A host of heritage and themed visitor centres throughout give terrific historical and cultural local area overviews.
Expect: Generally much more ‘touristy’ than further north. Inverness is throbbing, vibrant, Aviemore and Fort William are lively too. Lovely peaceful parts also – over towards Mallaig and Kyle of Lochalsh in the West. Skye’s towns are busy, the country relatively calm. Watch out for the big coaching hotels – not recommended for individual travellers.
Best for: ‘Commercial’ tourism in the centres, more ‘sophisticated in the country/rural areas. Fabulous touring and sightseeing of every conceivable variety. Superb highland golf, some terrific climbing, skiing, watersports, walking and wildlife watching too.
Typical hotels you’ll find: Inverness hotels vary from coaching to excellent and even boutique, some stunning country house hotels, inns and B and B’s in the country areas. Town hotels a mixed bag.
